Once a quite fishing village, now a popular attraction. Hout bay is famous for its harbour and yacht marina guarded by the majestic Sentinel, restaurants and curio shops. At the foot of Chapmans peak, this is a great place for paddle skiers and wind surfers. The waves are gentle making it a lovely swimming beach and ever popular with sun-worshippers. Cape fur seals often play here and you might spot a gentle giant - a whale cruising past the bay. A great family beach and a must see for any visitor to Cape Town. We visit Hout Bay as part of our Cape Peninsula Tour.

Facilities:

* Easy Access from a parking lot with ample parking.
* Plenty of restaurants. Mariners Warf being very popular however the food is on the greasy side.
* Plenty of shops and things to do and see.
* Lifeguards during summer

Beach activities:

* Surfing at Hout Bay (✪✪✪):A wave breaks on the beach and off the harbour wall however it needs huge swell before it works. Dungeons(✪✪✪✪✪), one of Cape Towns Big wave spots and home to the Red Bull Big Wave Africa event. Just off the Sentinel, Dungeons start breaking at eight to ten foot, this wave can get up to 60 foot..
* Sunbathing at Hout Bay Beach (✪✪✪✪): The calm, white dunes and the magnificent Chapmans peak in the distance makes this a sun worshippers paradise.
* Swimming at Hout Bay (✪✪✪✪): Save, and shallow with plots of space and warmer waters
