Saint Martin is the only island in the Caribbean split between two countries. The north side, French Saint Martin, is an overseas territory of France. The south side, Dutch Sint Maarten, is formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles but not an independent overseas territory of the Netherlands. Travel between both sides is unrestricted so you can enjoy beaches, restaurants, and shopping on both sides of the island.
